Setesdalfele 1995

setesdalfele 720pSitka Spruce (top) and Curly Maple (back, sides and fittings). Ebony, maple-tipped, tuning pegs.  Inlaid ebony decoration on fingerboard, tail piece and back.

This instrument was purchased by storyteller-musician-poet Sarah Granskou. On her work-study tour of Norway, master folk musicians said it was like the fiddles of Setesdal, a district in south central Norway. It has four sympathetic strings and incorporates many design features of baroque violins, although it has the same neck length as a modern violin.
